Saturday morning we put our seat belts on and went to school. We got there early and mom put my backpack on so I could carry the treats in to class. We walked around the parking lot until someone came to unlock the doors. (We were early.) Then Pepper got mad at me and tried to attack. Mom and dad wouldn't let me do anything about it. Mom took Pepper into the practice ring and ran and played with here for a little while. Then mom and dad changed and mom took me into the ring. We did "heel", "sit", and "down". We walked and ran around the ring and played for a half hour, until class began. And guess what!!!!???? I was most improved dog! I did better than everyone but Pepper! Figures.
Yesterday, when our class was over, the instructor came up to mom. I was with her and Pepper had left to go to the car with dad. Mom asked the instructor what he thought of me. He said I was doing GREAT. He said we would show all those people that Smooth Fox Terriers are very intelligent and trainable. Trainable?? I can do this in my sleep. I just like to be with my mom and dad, doing things together!
Mom was upset when she got home today! Something bad has happened and Pepper and I don't understand just what it is. They said "the airline won't take her" and "how will we get her here safely". I don't know what this means. Mom is going to call someone tonight. We are very worried.
Mom is taking me to my school today! I am so happy. I like my school.
Their back and they have a PUPPY! A Smooth Fox Terrier, just like me, only a girl! She is a baby and I will have to teach her everything! Oh, I am SOOOOO Happy!
Today something strange was going on at my school. When we got there, the other dogs were new. Only my bud, Cody, the rescue border collie, was there. The other dogs were strangers. So were most of the humans. My instructors were there, but alot of other people were, too.
We didn't go into the ring together, either. They called one dog at a time.
My mom was very nervous. I could feel it.
Soon they called me. "Foxfire, you're next." This was very strange. Nobody calles me Foxfire. Everyone calls me Fox.
Mom took me to the ring entryway. A lady who owns a neat schnauzer I have played with came up and told mom a bunch of stuff. Then she told us to procede.
A strange lady walked up and shook mom's hand. They talked for minute. I thought this was silly. Why weren't we doing our exercises?
Then we went to the schnauzer lady. She tried to brush me. I said "No!", but I sat when mom said to and I offered her my left paw to show there was no hard feelings. She looked supprised, but accepted it and looked and my nice short nails. Then she ran the brush down my back. A TRICK! But not a bad one.
She sent us down a runway telling us to about turn. This was more like it. Then a lady with a yellow lab who is in my Wednesday class walked up. Mom said "Fox, sit" and I did. They shook hands and the lady petted me. Very nice!
There were other people in the ring walking all over the place. We walked through them a few times then they told mom to take me to another ring and attach a long lead to me. This was really silly because I don't need a long lead. If mom says stay when we are in the ring, I stay. It is my job.
I did that and then we did a recall. Boring. I always come when called!
As we left the ring, Phil, one of my instructors slammed a chair down making a loud noise and his wife came past walking with a funny stick. I looked back at Phil, but we were leaving the ring, and I hoped for a treat. After all, I had been a good boy.
I was right. Mom took me over to my back pack and got the treats out. Yumm!
We waited while the other dogs took their turns then we all went into the ring. Mom gave my lead to the lady who wanted to groom me. I was not too happy about this, but mom said "Fox, Stay!" so I did.
Then all the moms and dads left the room. They were gone for a long time, too. I have waited for mom and dad before, so I just waited, again.
Mom came back and I was glad to see her. One of the other dogs had cried. I felt sorry for him. He missed his mom.
Then the groom-lady began reading off the names of the dogs who had passed an exam. Mom patted me as said I was a good boy and we would do this again. Then someone said "Foxfire passes!"
Every one clapped for me! Phil shook mom's hand! I knew something wonderful had happened!
Then mom told me. I am
Pepper and I are going to School! We first went on the 17th. All our classes are on Saturdays, in the morning. There are alot of other dogs and their moms at the class. The instructor likes dogs and has 3 big red ones called Irish Setters. I think they sit alot. We sat alot the first day, and I wanted to smell and meet all the others. Mom made me stay with her. Someone offered me a treat, but I do NOT take food from strangers! After the man talked for a while, we all stood up and did "heel" and "sit". I already know about those things, but do not like to "heel". "Sit" is ok, though. Pepper did everything she was asked to do, and would "heel" better than anyone. When we got home, mom took me up to the field and dad took Pepper. We didn't like it. Bummer! Home work! The next day, mom took me by myself. We went on a really long lead and walked all around the field. I could run and sniff and play. Mom just walked fast. Then we went into the center of the field. Mom changed my lead and collar. She put the ones from school on me and we practiced my lessons. NO fun! But mom gave me good treats, so all was not wasted. After a few days, we began running. I love to run. Soon the lessons were not so hard and I began to enjoy myself. I was alone with mom, and she kept telling me what a Fine Boy I am. By Friday, "heel" was not so boring, and, after all, Pepper was not with us to show what a "Little Angel" she is. AND, she didn't get me into any trouble.
