One day Foxfire decided to go hiking. He put on his backpack, after filling with all sorts of good things to eat. (Everyone know that The Fox loves to eat!) He found a nice stick which he carried in his mouth. (You never know when you might need a nice stick, says The Fox.)
Then The Fox went in search of Pepper. He ran around the yard looking in all her favorite places. The Fox ran everywere but didn't see Pepper. She was hiding, watching for birds to land in the yard. If one foolishly did, she planned to pounce on it. Then she saw The Fox running over to the far side of the yard. (She also saw the nice stick The Fox had in his mouth and thought she might like to have it for herself.)
Pepper saw Fox looking for something and came running. She asked The Fox what he thought he was doing, running around the yard, scaring all of the birds away. He told her about his desire to go hiking and about the lunch he had packed. The sun was shinning and the air was sweet and warm, so Pepper said "Let's go!"
